Something that's really exciting about Tilemap Town for me is that I'm actually defining a new protocol, which other people are free to implement clients and servers for, and they could be combined arbitrarily just like IRC clients and IRC servers.

Though that should definitely wait until I have a reason to declare the protocol stable and also implement some sort of versioning and capability negotiation system.
