lmao DMA over USB is coming soon
this will cause 0 problems, guaranteed
/s

@ada oh hey like firewire and thunderbolt

after all, it was such a good idea the last few tries

@hugsnake obviously. DMA is the ONLY way to achieve 40gbit links. No other way. :^)

@snailerotica DMA stands for Direct Memory Access :) eli5 is that a port (like USB) lets whatever's on the other end of the wire read your computer's brain. This is done in a restricted way (to prevent security problems) in theory, but in practice, almost everything that has DMA has serious security issues. My toot was to express my anguish @ USB, the most common consumer port in use today, is getting something so utterly broken.

@ada oh god, what executive thought this would be a good idea

@snailerotica Intel execs mostly (it's always Intel)

(Except when it's Nvidia)

@snailerotica also sorry if I overexplained, I tend to do that when I'm high

@ada not at all, it was very concise and informative
