i'm convinced that "hardcore gamers" don't actually enjoy games, they just feel obligated to be good at them to inflate their ego and appease their friends

@ctrlaltdog I have picked a few games to be relatively good at just so I can show I'm not a slouch once you get me away from pinball. Honestly, though, the nice thing about pinball is you don't have to relearn the skills every time a new game comes out.

we've all got games we're good at that we play on the hardest difficulty most of the time, but the key is knowing when to ease up and play something Fun, something you can win, to feel good about.

and not constantly hopping on multiplayer games harassing others and making them feel bad when they're just there to have fun

nor being an ass when you discover someone you know plays a game on a lower difficulty

@ctrlaltdog well when you don't have any other developed skills some people tend to be obsessively protective about them.

Not saying it's good but it's a very probable cause.

I bet a lot of these of people would be more at ease if there was something that wasn't video games that they could be good at and instead could express themselves instead. Or enjoyed a medium that would allow itself to be interpreted different ways

@ctrlaltdog Hence why some games like nier automata and far cry 3 and 4 are so popular with even toxic gamers because they briefly touch on things that might be found in literary works. One of the most popular features of the gamebryo fallouts are the snippets of the prewar world found in terminals etc.

Idk I don't know where to take this but I guess some people just need a hobby other than videogames.

@FimbulFlower video games aren't to blame, toxic masculinity is. unfortunately a lot of mainstream games in the modern day were built to cater to/encourage toxic masculinity
