reminder that giving your friends a link to a single mastodon instance has a greater chance of roping them in than throwing multiple choices at them
i came back because a friend of mine was talking about an instance they help with/know the mods of, and it was more important to me than anything to have someone i knew on the instance i chose. made it a clear choice. and here i am on chitter.
and don't think this stops others from choosing an instance better suited to them.
some of the folks i've pointed toward mastodon via chitter, have instead decided to seek out an instance they feel more at home on.
it just narrows down the choices for those who aren't yet sure about mastodon and don't want switching social networks to be some major decision. they can always move instances down the road if they find one they like better.
@ctrlaltdog Very good point actually. Let them choose between joining, or not. Rather than having to think about it... :D
@ctrlaltdog it's rather debilitating that my friends' posts will never show up in my feed. I suppose we'll just have to join the same one.
@ctrlaltdog
ha i'm guilty of doing this.....yesterday
i sort of regretted giving choices at the time but i genuinely couldn't decide between two instances that would both be a good fit for this person. probably should have just picked one :-/
@ctrlaltdog show all your cool #math friends this instance
when i joined mastodon i joined very quickly because i was curious, and because the only instance i knew about was mastodon.social
except i stopped using it after a couple weeks because mastodon.social started getting unbearably laggy and overwhelming, and there were too many other instances to choose from. i couldn't decide. it was easier just to leave.
