it has officially been 1 (one) year since i joined mastodon and the fediverse! at 11:02am gmt today last year i joined mastodon.xyz at @lighttrax, before later moving to cybre.space at @lighttrax and finally coming here to chitter!
i remember first discovering mastodon via someone i looked up to on twitter, and i tried to bring a lot of my friends along to join with me. most left after a week, and that person i looked up to left soon after. fortunately, i met a few people
from cybrespace i wanted to keep in touch with, and that was enough to keep me around, moving to that site a couple of weeks later becuase i really liked the theme they had.
i ended up slowly drifting away from masto as college started up again but i came back in full force around october / november. i cant remember what brought me back, but i know what kept me around for good - the people!
idk if anyone else feels this, but mastodon feels a lot more.. personal than twitter. people open up about their lives more here. it felt less like i was talking to personas and brands and more like i was talking to people from the real world.
so, i stuck around, made a ton more friends, got into a few rows, and im still around and kicking here at chitter today. and i don't plan on going anywhere away from the fediverse anytime soon, despite all the recent drama and turmoil, because of that reason of being able to talk to actual people. here's to more years of whatever this place holds for us

a few bad apples but, for the most part, everyone I've met here is pretty wonderful
