yes I’m sure your single user instance is fine, and maybe I was nieve to think a low-tier DO droplet could bridge a mid-sized discord server
ejabberd still exists and it’s hard for synapse to justify its behaviour though
@quarky@chitter.xyz i'm not exaggerating here, my gf and i worked together to get it cross compiled and running under netbsd on that machine, and it was surprisingly viable
large rooms with lots of servers are a problem, but that will improve whenever half-mesh routing becomes a thing

conduit is much less awful. i have run conduit on a 486dx/133 with 48mb of ram and had a better experience than synapse gives with a 2gb vps.
