The ending to #SuperMarioBros2 on the #NES I always knew thought was a pretty awesome eye candy animation and graphics for the NES. So many games gave you a pretty lame ending for all your hard work, but this was a pretty awesome payoff. #retrogaming

Disregarding the Doki Doki Panic origins for brevity's sake, Mario and company save a land of the subconscious from a frog king. Luigi learns to jump high (just like in the actual Mario 2) Toad does powerlifting and cardio. Peach can float for some reason.

Something that I haven't seem remarked upon is how much #SuperMarioBrosWonder leaves out. It doesn't have a timer or points at all.
In that way, the Mario game it's closest to is #SuperMarioBros2, which didn't have them either.
So, as @miona is still on hiatus, we aren't getting a #VGMWednesday prompt this week.
So, I'll just post some random @ocremix tune.

First of all, there's #Birdo, who first appeared in #SuperMarioBros2 (AKA Super Mario Bros USA), the same game which introduced Bob-Ombs and Shy Guys, and the first where Peach was playable.
The Japanese manual states that Brido "mistakenly believes themself to be a girl", which is really bad phrasing. Still, in all subsequent appearances, Birdo has been referred to as female, and there's even a mission in Captain Rainbow where you prove she is indeed a girl. She is trans.

Peach was a playable character in #SuperMarioBros2, released on the NES in 1989, alongside Mario, Luigi, and Toad. Holding the jump button makes her float; this has been a consistent trait for her since then, and is most famously referenced in #SuperSmashBros, where she has been playable since Melée.
Don't tell me SMB2 isn't a real Mario game because of its origin. Nintendo consider it a real Mario game, and it's part of Super Mario All Stars.
