let's take it over. get some reach and recognition, folks. if you're mad at Musk and what Tesla has done and especially if you've ever owned a Tesla and are trying to atone for your sins, one thing you can immediately do to help your communities is DIRECT GIVING.
my name's key, and my spouse @inoru_no_hoshi and I are disabled queers who are trying to escape my psychologically and verbally abusive father, and stay afloat from bills when I haven't worked since mid-2023; I've applied for SSDI but it's a massive wait time and backlog and they probably won't approve me on the first try anyway. so we need to survive now and it's been pretty tight.
we need to pay off the card we used to buy my spouse a power wheelchair earlier this year, because their old one was declining and unsafe. we have other bills too.
direct giving puts the power to help someone in your hand, not relying on some other source of help that there might it might not be.
people are having a hard time of it and that five or ten or twenty dollars that is a cup of coffee and some pastries at Starbucks or whatever directly helps people who have for instance been unemployed, or who are disabled, or who work two jobs and it's still not enough—there's a whole multitude of reasons people need help, and all of them function by the poor having to disclose so much about our lives and put our horrors out for public consumption like almost trauma porn to be frank.
direct giving puts it back into individuals' hands and gives the recipients agency and immediate help.
