that said, there are plenty of people out there who are like "yeah well i experience this small hardship and i'm scared so i'm not able to help out thanks"

the kind of people that think everyone else can deal with the hardships in society because they've got their own stuff going on

believe it or not, activism isn't easy and full of glamour. it's about doing more than you're expected, to help right the world where others won't. there's a deficit of direct action.

we all have shit going on. a lot of us are just barely scraping by. that doesn't mean we can ignore all the shit going down because we're already uncomfortable. we gotta use up every last scrap of energy we have left over on fighting, because shit CAN and WILL get worse.

what about the people who are already dying or homeless, who literally do not have any extra energy, even for surviving? but they do it anyway. we gotta fight for them and for ourselves

it's unfair! but it's also what we gotta do. because nobody else will do it for us. the ruling class has the means and yes, it SHOULD be their responsibility, but they also don't care. because they actively benefit from and actually want this shit to happen. so we gotta do it even though we're at a disadvantage.

a lot of us may struggle to thrive now but we'll struggle to live soon if we don't work together to do something.

@ctrlaltdog I've recently spoken to someone who's disabled who felt a lot of relief after I mentioned that not everyone can help therefore they shouldn't feel guilty about not helping.

They'd just never encountered the idea. They're not uneducated or unintelligent (though being either is obviously no crime).

@ctrlaltdog Is it really too much to ask that those trying to inspire folks to action spare a few words of encouragement for those of us who wish we could and very much want to act?

@Nerdcoresteve i'm not all about patching guilt. we should absolutely feel guilty, because if we don't, then we might just forget about everything and become too comfortable.

i've lived with guilt, while supposedly not being able to do anything. all it did was keep me focused on how i do in fact need to do something when i can.

we can never be too comfortable in a world in this current state

@Nerdcoresteve white people especially are always looking to patch their guilt, have someone tell them they're doing enough when they're not doing anything but trying to dodge the responsibility.

and believe me, a lot of people see these long posts about "hey, whatever you do is enough" and get comfortable with doing nothing

the hard truth is that nothing is ever "enough", we gotta keep doing as much as we can until things are ideal.

@Nerdcoresteve people keep trying to hijack this call for direct action as a way to quell their guilty feelings about wanting to sit around and do nothing because life didn't deal them a perfect hand. they're making it all about them when it has nothing to do with them.

guilt is a powerful tool for motivating those that insist that they can't do anything when they clearly can, the truth is that they just don't like the risks/think it's too much work.

Also, guilt can make things harder for people who are already doing all they can just to get by.
