"The Anchorage Police Department (APD) has concluded its three-month trial of Axon’s Draft One, an AI system that uses audio from body-worn cameras to write narrative police reports for officers—and has decided not to retain the technology. Axon touts this technology as “force multiplying,” claiming it cuts in half the amount of time officers usually spend writing reports—but APD disagrees.

The APD deputy chief told Alaska Public Media, “We were hoping that it would be providing significant time savings for our officers, but we did not find that to be the case.” The deputy chief flagged that the time it took officers to review reports cut into the time savings from generating the report. The software translates the audio into narrative, and officers are expected to read through the report carefully to edit it, add details, and verify it for authenticity. Moreover, because the technology relies on audio from body-worn cameras, it often misses visual components of the story that the officer then has to add themselves."

2025 Iditarod Ceremonial Start in Anchorage. Almost no snow in Anchorage, so shortening the route considerably meant bigger crowds downtown. 33 teams this year, the smallest field ever with 16 rookies. They had to move the real start to Fairbanks on Monday and change the race route because of lack of snow. #Alaska #Anchorage #Iditarod2025

We said in our flyer (see our site) that the bosses always aim to divide up the workforce. This is the biggest strength they have -- dividing staff and faculty, but also faculty and other unions. By making us fight as isolated groups, we can't attack with our collective might.

So it's no surprise that on Oct. 15, UA's chief negotiator introduced attacks on "me too" clauses -- which guarantee equal raises to different groups.

"I'm hesitating because I am in the fishbowl... It makes it difficult for us to address the unique interests, needs, and concerns of UNAC."

We expect that UA will pressure other bargaining units to give up their me-too clauses. This would give the University power to selectively raise or depress pay, not only to help the budget but to play groups off one another.

We call on members of every UA bargaining unit to defend their me too clauses.

Most of all, we call on staff (who by and large have no collective bargaining agreements) to take every action -- legal and extralegal -- to win the same raises as other groups. You have every right to the same increases!

We have posted a slightly updated version of our flier "University of Alaska workers, prepare to strike! Let's impose our will on the bosses!"

If you are in #Alaska please print out a copy or two and put them out!

This gets the word out, but just as importantly it helps confuse the bosses about the locations of our militants!

Share it even if you don't agree in full. This is an elementary act of solidarity!

An introduction (please boost!):

Hello, #UniversityofAlaska, #Alaska and #HigherEd!

Hello to our fellow workers in #Anchorage, #Juneau, #Fairbanks, and at UA's extended campuses!

We are you -- current and former workers and students.

Our goal is to unite the ENTIRE UA workforce outside the narrow bounds of the unions.

It's madness for one group to make peace with the bosses. This means abandoning every other group to their miserable fates.

We need to organize as an entire workforce and student body, outside of the control of the straitjacketed unions. This is the only way we can even begin to threaten the bosses!
