plus this course seems like exactly the kind of book I’d hand over to a #programmer that hasn’t moved beyond basic programs in JS or Python or C# or Java https://cs3110.github.io/textbook/cover.html
#FediHire #GetFediHired
I'm a #Programmer/#SoftwareEngineer. I'm most fluent in #Python, have some basics in #Java and #C++, but I'm also taking up new languages like #Javascript and others in my eternal journey of getting better and minimising the impostor syndrome that befalls pretty much all programmers (I feel). I'm also very experienced in #CloudNative/#DevOps technologies, and have been the one devising solutions and maintaining infrastructure in a fast-paced startup environment in my previous employment.
I'm passionate in what I do and those that know me here or IRL would know that I'm always yapping about the things I'm learning or working on - I love discussing them, and I love helping people out - esp those on the same boat as me.
This passion has led me into writing and maintaining tons of #FOSS projects like Mango: a content distribution framework based on #Django for #Mastodon and #Bluesky that powers various bots of mine like @lowyat@mastodon.social and @waktusolat@mastodon.social, Charts: a #Helm chart repository for an easy and reproducible deployment strategy for all my projects and everything else I self-host on my #homelab, and Orked: O-tomated #RKE2 distribution, a collection of scripts I wrote that are comprehensively documented to enable everyone to self-host a production-grade #Kubernetes cluster for absolutely free in their homes.
I'm based in Malaysia, but I'm open to just about any on-site, hybrid, or remote job opportunities anywhere. In the meantime though, I'm actively looking for a job in countries like #Japan and #Singapore, in a bid for a desperate lifestyle change. I've linked below my Portfolio (which you too, could self-host your own!), for those who'd wish to connect/learn more of me. Thank you https://l.irfanhak.im/resume

"You can’t be on the social web without being social"
That's basically what I say to those who say they're not getting any #engagement on #Mastodon... but also everything they #post is all #business! Don't just be a #programmer, or a #founder, be a PERSON. I have some #followers from posting about #tech, and I have some followers from posting about #Maths, but also some who just liked what I #boost or what I said when I replied to someone about something else altogether, like now!
I made a bunch of stickers.
Put on your mohawk and pread some love.

This is up to us.

I've been coding since the mid 1980's and was wondering how other developers think about the potential issues with "AI" generated code possibly including parts of, or whole, pieces of code that is covered by an Open Source license like GPLv2 or AGPLv2, without you knowing it.
Regardless companies' and people's disclaimers, etc, this, to me, seems like a potential can of worms, from a legal perspective, no?
I'm still at the "entry level" (or "LEGO-level" as I'd like to call it) when it comes to "AI". I do find it interesting, and even (sometimes) fascinating. I'm not so impressed with some of the "code solutions" presented by Code Copilot (ChatGPT), but that's probably just me.

"Too expensive."
That translates to "not profitable."
I say, F that. AI isn't useful for writers/writing if it isn't trained on the writer it supposed to help. What it currently is, is unethical. And yes, you can train an LLM on anything on your own computer, privately, if you have a body of work and enough time to wait.
#Apple was in a position to do this, especially with Apple Intelligence qualified machines. Whether it will in future remains to be seen; manifestly, it isn't doing it now.
In the business world, we can for example train on all the tech support tickets, that is the dialogue between customer and techie where a problem and a solution are stated, including mistakes as well as manual pages, etc. Curation is essential. Basically being able to scold or praise results. I saw one of these LLM tech support AIs demonstrated. I was thinking of doing it for my employer, but I retired first.
We can train from a writer's essays and fiction. Apple certainly could have chosen to do so.
New year, new server, new #introduction !
I've become a #cinephile over the past 5 or 10 years, so I mostly talk about #movies here. I started a #MovieReview blog about two years ago (link in profile), covering new releases (no spoilers).
I'm also a #PhysicalMedia collector, both movies and #music (mostly #rock / #metal ).
Outside that, I'm a professional #programmer living in the Northeastern US. I spend a bunch of time on the #pickleball court. And I love (and collect) #BoardGames
Hello!
Well, I got downsized today
Anyone got leads for a trans girl with 10+ years at one shop (rare these days!) as a programmer/systems analyst with xp in ssrs, cognos, Crystal business reporting, database design, ERP software, WordPress, webdev, "wearing many hats" as my old boss liked to say

I'll have to set up a new LinkedIn with my new name
New instance: New Intro.
I'm a hobbyist #programmer into #digitalsecurity and #gameprogramming with #godot
I lean #anarchist but know the water I swim in.
Worked for #burningman #dpw department for a long time before taking a sabbatical in 2017. Currently working on a #WeirdAl based #artproject for burningman '25. More details to follow.
Software engineers are hit hard in the current economy, and I'm no exception. As such, I now have an opening for new clients.
If anyone knows of a group that needs a Software Architect with 20+ years experience, for short- or long-term contracts, let me know.
The U.S. District Court for the District of South Dakota is seeking a #Programmer Analyst
AV-AP dev again, this time with big news at the start
[Remote Desktop -> Windows App. whaaa!?]
I agree the change is both startling and fraught, but wait. There's this. A huge number of users are using non-Windows machines to access Windows hosted virtually for work, even in the office. People no longer get a machine with corporate assets, just remote access. Think Mac, Linux, tablets with keyboards, even phones. User? Non-IT. Rarely if ever technical. IT knows, we don't want users f-ing with their machines. Asked, users will say, "I'm logging on to work," or simply... Wait for it... "Windows." Aaaarrrgghh!
It makes sick sense, but it'll either work for marketing or they change it, and there ain't anything we can do about it.
Deep breaths! Deep breaths.
