I remember a media crisis in the 1980s when many of my colleagues became wine traders to survive. Now I read about that photographer who tries to survive by opening a wine bar. This time it's AI destroying the jobs of creative professionals: theguardian.com/technology/202

Perhaps we should train AI to drink wine? (sarcasmAlarm)

This Mouro Gold Label blend (the top-of-the-line from a top winery in Alentejo) has evolved well in the warm 2009 year. It now folds warmth of the year into the whole. Tannins have moderated too. A sweet edge shows tasty fruit and a bit of oak, plus some licorice.

It's always going to be a fruit-forward red, but it has surprising finesse and focus on display with its age, and with air. It drinks beautifully. Mostly Alicante Bouschet and Aragonez. 14.5%, around $80

@raymondpert Trump has already talked about, I believe, buying more American wine.

Without getting into relative pros-and-cons, that's ridiculous. "Hi, we like the free market best when we can dictate your choices!"

But surprise! His family has a winery in Virginia. If he thinks he gets a huge bump in sales, I'd say he is wrong. Nothing is going to make a lot of folks buy Trump wine, no matter the price advantage. 😜 #wine

#Trump threatened to enact a 200% #tariffs on European #wine, #champagne & other #alcohol beverages, the latest escalation in a brewing #TradeWar between the #US & the #EU.

Trump in a social media post on Thursday said that he would move forward w/the import duties if the EU doesn’t repeal a tax on US #whiskey, a measure put in place to retaliate against Trump’s #steel & #aluminium tariffs that went into effect on Wed.

This 30-year Tawny is bright, fresh and spicy with the familiar caramel overlay and some grip. The persistent finish is long, and the balance just doesn't get better. It's utterly delicious and dribbles fresh flavors over the palate. From Mário Braga Herdeiros, Quinta do Mourão (though son Miguel now runs the winery). A bit pricey, worth it ($150), Bar-top cork (bottled 2017).

Note that you'll more easily find the brand name "São Leonardo."
